An Examination into the Higher Education System in Pakistan: A Reality Check

The aim of this article is to present the existing situation of higher education in Pakistan. The ever-expanding growth of knowledge-based economy has placed a pressing need on the higher education system to rise up to the challenge and achieve the goals of emancipating the people from the menace of social evils facing the community, engage in innovation, and improve the standard of higher education so as to bring it at par with the international standards. All over the world higher education has been brought into the mainstream for social and economic development of a region, with the aim of preparing people for challenging roles in the era of “knowledge economy”. The current paper has focused upon three things, i.e., significance of higher education for a country, the current problems faced by the higher education sector in Pakistan, and reforms that could remove the existing shortcomings in the system.
