Abstract

Rahman Baba, the classic of Pashto literature is a reputed, renowned and
versatile poet known all over the world. He deserves his poetic place in the first row of the world classics. Being the poet of humanity, love and beauty, a variety of thoughts is lying in his poetry. Up to now a fruitful literature has been written on the subjects of his poetry but the artistic side of his work is ignored to some extent. The critics have not paid so much heed to this aspect. Writing about the techniques, art, rhythm, spontaneousness and lingual beauties of Rahman Baba is a very time consuming research. In this research paper only one aspect of his artistic beauty which is the usage of idioms is discussed with reference to examples from his poetry. The idioms that he has used in his poetry are critically analyzed. The idioms that he used show that he was not a saint sitting in a side of a hut rather he was a man full of life who spent all his time within his people because most of the idioms he used, show his near relation with life and its dimensions. In this regard his command on language and linguistics is worth praising. It is a very interesting and important artistic side of his poetry, needs to be discussed elaborately in a separate book.
