Abstract

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a monumental initiative that represents a cornerstone of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aiming to foster economic cooperation between China and Pakistan. This paper explores the multifaceted economic and strategic implications of CPEC, emphasizing its transformative potential for both nations. Economically, CPEC is poised to catalyze infrastructure development, enhance energy security, and create numerous job opportunities. The construction of roads, railways, and energy projects aims to reduce logistical costs and improve trade efficiency, thereby positioning Pakistan as a vital trade hub connecting Central and South Asia. Simultaneously, CPEC carries significant strategic weight in the context of regional geopolitics, as it bolsters China’s presence in the Indian Ocean and strengthens Pakistan's economic resilience amid regional tensions. The corridor is expected to counterbalance India’s influence, providing Pakistan with enhanced capabilities in regional security dynamics. However, the initiative is not without challenges; issues such as debt sustainability, local opposition, and environmental concerns pose risks to its long-term success. By reviewing existing literature and analyzing key data, this paper endeavors to provide a comprehensive understanding of CPEC's economic benefits and strategic importance, alongside the potential obstacles that may hinder its progress.
